ok, I'm looking on youtube for some lessons on how to speak Japanese.....
but I dont understand, why do some lessons, use english characters, (ABC...) and then some use the Japanese characters?
are there two ways to write Japanese? or is that just so that we know how to pronounce it?
Is it worth me learning the english character way, or should I start with learning the Japanese character way?

if you dont understand here...
what I mean by english character is,
english ------ japanese
YES -------- HAI
then japanese character
YES --------- はい

Yes is Hai, and はい in Japanese, so what should I learn?

The Japanese using the English characters are called "romanji" and are the transliteration of the kanji/etc. I suppose you could learn romanji first to master pronunciation, and then learning kanji and figuring out which belong where would be easier.

Just to correct the bozos above who mentioned "romanji". There is no such thing. It is "romaji". Romaji is just a crutch to get you speaking some Japanese before tackling the very complex writing system. There is no one right approach - whatever works for you is OK. But if you ever hope to be fluent in Japanese, you'll need to know kanji, hiragana and katakana.

It's just for pronunciation purposes. However, say you took a standardized test to test your Japanese knowledge, such as the SAT II Japanese test, then I'm pretty sure you could use either the pronunciation or the real characters.

You can educate your self via books or in case you move to tuition see in the event that they present categories. My sister has been instructing herself Japanese for nearly three years. You can attempt to study via Japanese Music, Anime, Movies, and TV Shows.
