I'm Indonesian, I really like to make friends with many people around the world, language is one of the important thing in this relation, especially English language, because it is international language. Honestly I'm able to speak English, but my English is not very good, my grammar is bad, but I think as long as you know what I mean that's enough for me. How do you think? am I wrong? actually how many important is grammar in English? (give your opinion and assessment from 1 to 10 for this case) thank you : )

3/10. I strongly disagree with you;.I think it means you're lazy. I strongly believe that when you learn a language, you should learn it well.

English is not my mother tongue, in fact it is my 4th language, yet when I learned it, I made sure I learned proper spelling and grammar. I think it's a matter of respect towards myself and towards those who have to read my written communications.

In a world where so much is dependent on written communication, using proper grammar makes it possible to convey meaning in a clear, unambiguous manner. There is nothing worse than being unable to decipher a poorly written e-mail and then having to resort to calling the author on the phone because they cannot communicate effectively in writing.

Judging from the way some of the native English-speakers who lurk around here write, I'm pretty sure my opinion is not shared by all LOL.

Actually, your English isn't that bad. Your punctuation is a little strange, but you didn't make many grammatical mistakes (the articles a/an/the are the main thing, and using "how many" for "how"). I think you're confusing grammar with general usage issues. Some parts of usage are fairly important, like grammar, and some, like punctuation, are useful but not essential. Bad grammar would be like:

"think I you to knowing me says a what?"

It just all depends on what you want to do. If you want to just speak English, punctuation and spelling don't matter much. If you want to write English, they're fairly important.

of course grammar is substantial. once you're seeking to get forward, bypass to night instructions. a close-by grownup researching center can help. in case you're no longer searching for a activity above the minimum salary point then i assume it does no longer count. a great number of of our youthful those days are "texting" and w/digital mail, the fast cuts taken w/spelling has reeked havoc w/the English language. Laziness is the only excuse for no longer researching appropriate grammar.
