Oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ[1] (Sanskrit: ओं मणिपद्मे हूं, IPA: [õːː məɳipəd̪meː ɦũː]) is the six-syllabled Sanskrit mantra particularly associated with the four-armed Shadakshari form of Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan Chenrezig, Chinese Guanyin), the bodhisattva of compassion. Mani means "jewel" or "bead" and Padma means "the lotus flower", the Buddhist Sacred Flower.

It is commonly carved onto rocks or written on paper which is inserted into prayer wheels, said to increase the mantra's effects.

They can be translated as "Om Jewel in the Lotus"

...........

The syllable Om has no meaning indeed. It's just used to empty your mind while you're chanting thatin meditation . If you say OM aloud lenghthening the sound, you'll feel a very strange feeling inside your head. The sound seems to come in and then out as an echo.

Why to praise the Lotus?

-The White Lotus grows in the mud and it's floating on the water. At night It closes up its petals

and hides down in the water. In the morning it comes out of the bottom again but surprisingly it keeps its petals white with no spots of mud on it. So that phenomenon symbolizes purity as a metaphor of our mind clarity as well as long life, health and luck.
