At an interview, you shouldn't say Hallo. That's too informal. Better say Guten Morgen or Guten Tag (depending on the time of the day). Towards a shop-owner or a cashier at a supermarket it's okay to say Hallo. It's a less formal situation. Asking a stranger for directions: You'd usually say "Entschuldigung, können Sie mir bitte helfen?" or "Entschuldigung, darf ich Sie etwas fragen?" or something like that. You can also say "Hallo, können Sie mir bitte helfen?" But it's better to start with Entschuldigung rather than Hallo. Guten Tag would be too formal here. In general, it's okay to say Hallo, unless it's a very formal situation like a job interview etc.

Hallo, Leute! (also: Hallo, allesamt! Hallo, alle miteinander!) (hello)
Danke! or Dankeschön! (Thanks)
More formal: Vielen Dank! Herzlichen Dank!
Tschüss! (goodbye)
More formal: Auf Wiedersehen!

I would say, for an interview, say Guten Morgen to wish them a good morning.
