what are the difference of these text messages. for me, if i text as "hahaha" means its really funny and i burst into laugh. if "hehehe" means its funny but i giggle or chuckle. but when someone "lol" at me, i get confused whether she/he is laughing because they mock me and think i'm stupid or they laugh because its funny?

"LOL" comes highest (Lots of laughter).

Hahaha is a brief acknowledgment that it deserves a hearty laugh, provided time permits.

hehehe conveys a 'compulsion', a persuasion to evoke laughter, taking great efforts and trouble to make something look comical, jocular, or humorous. (some people get annoyed at 'hehehe' response, when they look at it as a sarcasm!)

Lol does NOT mean "lots of laughter", it means "laugh out loud" o.O

But to answer your question, "lol" can really mean either. If I were to use it though, it'd be for the "hahaha" type of laughter, as opposed to giggling. I guess it varies depending on who it is though. Generally, I would think that the person is laughing because whatever you said was funny. It seems a bit paranoid to think that everyone is laughing AT you, just because they said "lol". Unless it is clear from the context that this is actually what they are doing.

hehehe is usually said after a small joke or funny comment is made and the desired effect is to say that you are chuckling. Lol is the action of someone laughing out loud and hahahah is literally that person laughing out loud.

LOL just means whatever was said was funny enough to make a chuckle.

If it's really funny I say LMFAO.
