Equals.

We are the first among equals.

Think of the English expression "at par".

The word can also be used to mean mate, spouse or partner.

It should be "primi inter pares" (or primae if it's a group of females).

Edit: Whoever just down thumbed me, your mommy called and said it was time for you to get off the internet and go watch Barney.

Last is correct. The verb (sumus) is plural, so it must have a plural subject or the verb must be singular.

Sumus primi/primae inter pares = We are the first ones among equals.

Sum primus inter pares = I am the first one among equals.

What's generally seen as the quote is simply 'Primus inter pares' - First among equals.

Having it plural doesn't really make much sense.
