Question:
Should I study Spanish or German?

I’m half English and Japanese and fluent in both. I’m studying French right now, but I’m adding another language module and I’m unsure which I should take.
The only thing is that Spanish is taught in English, and German in Japanese. I’m leaning towards Spanish simply because I think learning German in Japanese would be harder than learning on my own in English. What do you think?

Doesn't make sense. Any foreign language should be taught _in that language_.

So German should be taught only in German. Spanish should only be taught in Spanish.

What do you mean that doesn't make sense? How do you think you learned how to speak as a baby?

English is a mixture of Latin, as well as Germanic languages. So if you're a native English speaker, learning Spanish or German won't be very hard for you. Spanish may be a bit easier because of your French background. However speaking Spanish won't make it very easy to pick up German chicks at the bar.

So in other words, how do you plan to use the language?

If you already know French, then Spanish will be a breeze. I learned Spanish by reading comic books! ...because I already knew French, so the combination of the pictures and my French vocabulary solved almost everything. Eventually I had to learn some proper grammar from books. The only down side is, that when you're trying to speak French you may find some Spanish words mixing in; and vice versa.

Since you are already studying a Romance language now, it might be more versatile to add German. But if you are more comfortable learning from English, Spanish will be easier. Ideally, you would acquire a language directly without translating through another one, but since that option apparently isn't available to you, just choose based on the teaching language.

Why not both?
