Help with translation from English (X-Files episode).?

I'm Russian and I study English. I watched X-Files episode "Field trip" and I need some help with translation.

Coroner (medical examiner) examined two bodies (case is strange and cause of death is unknown) and said to Mulder and Scully: "We gave them adjoining suites. I was ready to send them on to Chapel Hill. Figured the state medical examiner should have a look at them."

"Adjoining suites" - what does it mean in this sentence? Can anybody explain?

Ellen is right. The term "adjoining rooms" is normally used in hotels when people are traveling together. It means rooms that are next to each other, usually with a door you can open to go between them if you want without going out in the hall. They're for people who want to be close to each other. "Adjoining suites" would be the same idea, but a "suite" is a much larger hotel room, almost an apartment.



So the coroner is making a joke here, treating these two dead bodies like he is running a hotel and they are traveling together as friends in luxury accomodations. What he probably really means is that they are right next to each other in those refrigerated drawers they put bodies in.

Well, I'm not 100% sure since more information about the situation would be helpful but it sounds like you mean suites that are next to each other.

A suite is like a large hotel room, probably with several rooms. Adjoining means they are joined together. :)
