You only use the full name once, because after that everyone knows who you're talking about, and if you use just the first name it implies you're a personal friend. Her advice about "the" is slightly misleading though - what she means is that you don't ALWAYS need to use it. You DO need to use it sometimes!

1 always spell numbers under 10

2 watch over use of colons : they are used to introduce a list. we tend to use full stops otherwise.

3 when talking about a person always use the surname.

4 don't use the definite article in english. il topolino = mouse not the mouse
