The difference between " to touch base and to catch up)?

I have not seen you for a long time, so
1) I really want to meet up and touch base with everything.
2) I really want to meet up and catch up with everything.

Which one is correct based on the above context?

2 is correct. You "touch base" with a person, not with "everything". So #1 doesn't make sense, but you could say



1. I really want to meet up and touch base with you.



Although that's a little redundant. You will "touch base" just by meeting them. It means you're making contact.



"Catch up with everything" implies more. It says that you're getting all the news, learning everything that's happened since the last time you talked with this person. If you "touch base" you might not learn anything. Calling up and saying "hi, I know we haven't talked in a while, I just wanted you to know I'm thinking of you" would be considered touching base.

touch base just means to make contact....talk of possibilities of future plans. Usually you only want to use this when in a business deal, mainly if you're trying to sell something.

Catch up...tell one another what has gone on during the past while away from each other, maybe with friends or family members both parties know, or themselves.

I'd use catch up in that context.
