I've tried smacking him with the item, doesn't work, locking him up for the day, doesn't work. What do i do? HELP!

As far as German is concerned, John Mc Le...'s answer is correct... But honestly, why on Earth do you want to learn German in order to communicate with your German Shepherd ?? He is a dog, for God's sake...German Shepherd is the name of his breed, it has absolutely nothing to do with his nationality :-) In my experience, the language animals respond best to is English...A can choose, I speak 5 fluently. I have had dogs in the past, have 3 cats and a budgie now, and have always spoken English to them. And it is not because I live in an English speaking country... I speak Italian at home (and English to the animals) and have always done so...

If you have problems educating your dog, learning German won't help... Invest your time and money in a course that teaches you how to educate your dog, they exist and they will probably work.

Good luck !

First, PLEASE get some serious self-training and/or do some major research into training dogs. You do NOT hit them with the item. You do NOT lock them up for the day (they end up bored, confused, no clue what's going on, scared, and basically a ball of emotions, and you've done nothing about the actual problem). This is why German Shepherds end up violent and attacking people, and end up with a bad reputation, when it's the human's fault for being totally unprepared and uneducated about how to handle a puppy. You need a consistent training program that is adapted to how a puppy learns and thinks, not just willfully striking out or locking them up. A puppy learns and explores with its mouth. It doesn't know that chewing is wrong, and really chewing is NOT wrong. Chewing the wrong things is wrong, so they need to be shown what they can and what they cannot chew. I also just got a German Shepherd puppy, and after 2 weeks she is doing beautifully. When she starts chewing on something that she should not have, I tell her sternly to "Leave it (in English, of course)," then give her something she is ok to chew on (like a toy). When she starts playing with her own toy, I tell her what a good girl she is.

Please. Buying a dog is a responsibility, not a game. Educate yourself. If your dog isn't trained correctly, they will not have the confidence they need to be a good, well-behaved dog. When a dog is raised wrong and ends up biting someone, THEY pay the price for their human's negligence. It's not too hard to get some training, and it's so fun, I promise!

Sit : Platz or sitz

lay down : leg dich

A friend of mine had the same problem with her dog (a Rottweiler) ,that ripped up everything , she 'cured' him by giving him every time he did such a things a little slap with the thing he spoiled, what he did not like at all in the beginning, but a little slap does not hurt a dog, makes him only a bit scared and nothing else and after approx one week it worked out very well and the problem was solved. After that my friend had never to deal with such problems. Try it, much success for the future and a nice time with your dog.

Omg.. Smacking it with the item? Locking it in a cage all day? My GSD can literally go all day you had no idea what kind of animal you got.. Poor thing

The fact that you said you smacked your dog with the item he chew up shows you shouldn't have a dog to begin with. It also shows you don't have the brain power required to learn another language
