When writing a letter to a family, would I start off the letter with "bonjour familly" or "salut familly"

I realize that I would generally write "cher famille", but it doesn't fit the context of the letter.

Which would work better?

Thanks!

Salut - hi

Bonjour - slightly more formal, hello

I dont really think that Salut/Bonjour Famille sounds right, butiI think that f you said Salut tout le monde, it would sound a bit better.

Good luck

Salut is more informal, as it simply means 'hi,' or 'hello.' Bonjour, however, is more formal as it means 'Good Day.' Salut is better for friends or family, but Bonjour is something you should use in public or with meeting new people. It's more polite. For example, you wouldn't say, "hey" or "what's up?" to someone you've just met. That is like saying Salut. You would say "hello" or something like that. That is like saying Bonjour.

Bonjour is a combination phrase that literally means 'good day'. Salut is a little more casual-- it means 'Hey' or 'Hi'.
