I am trying to say "Christa Wolf censored herself."

I was going to write „Christa Wolf zensierte sich." but that was a guess and I double-checked with Google Translate which is telling me that that translates to "Christa Wolf is censored." (Which would be „Christa Wolf wird zensiert", but whatever). Help?

In addition to what the other contributors have said, you could also say



"Christa Wolf erlegte sich selbst eine Zensur auf."



It would be more precise and more formal, thus more suited to written language.
