Here are all the basic colors in french: In the cases were there are 2 french words for a color, The first saying is masculine, the second is feminine.

black noir/noire (nwahr)

white blanc/blanche (blahng/blahnsh)

gray gris/grise (gree/greez)

red rouge (roozh)

blue bleu/bleue (bluh)

yellow jaune (zhawn)

green vert/verte (vehr/vehrt)

orange orange (oh-RAHNZH)

purple violet (vee-oh-LEH)

brown marron (mah-ROHNG)

pink rose (rose)

My wallet is purple: Mon portefeuille est violet

And for the systems to learning french, I reccomend just trying to learn a new word every day. Doing this will help you extend your vocabulary. Once you understand how french words are written, it's easy to learn many more. Focus on the roots of the words.

A few easy phrases for you to learn:

Hello: Bonjour

Goodbye: Au revoir

Me: Moi

You: Toi

Yes: Oui

No: Non

How are you?: Cava?

My name is: Je m'appelle

Red: Rouge (rooj)

Black: Noir (nwar)

Yellow: Jaune (jon ["N" is silent] )

Green: Vert (vair-t)

Orange: Orange (orawnge)

Blue: Bleu (bluh)

Unfortunately, I forgot how to say "wallet". I think the sentence would be: Mon violet purse. (My purple wallet/purse)

You can join a French club that caters to teaching beginners.. Or if you're still in school, you can join a French Immersion school.

You put the noun before the colour, eg J'ai un chien noir= I have a black dog.

Don't forget as you're learning these that French adjectives have to agree with the gender of the noun, so you have to learn both the masculine and feminine forms of these. Some of them only have one form.

red: rouge

black: noir/noire

purple: pourpre

yellow: jaune

green: vert/verte

orange: orange

blue: bleu/bleue

My wallet is purple = Mon portefeuille est pourpre.

"Portefeuille" is masculine

free French courses and exercises: http://www.lepointdufle.net/

free beginners'French: www.bbc.co.uk/languages [with audio material]

lots of other free stuff online - just put apprendre français into google.fr

French textbooks, dictionary, gramarbooks - Amazon - you really must have a good dico.

Most important thing, get something to listen to - the accent isn't so very different in Québec - in fact the rolled /r/ is a lot easier to say than the Parisian one! - so it doesn't matter too much what CDs/ other audio material you get, but listen as much as you can.
