alamat is a tagalog word. can you translate it to english?

it means "history" or the or the origin.could be folklore too...while "salamat"is means thank you...both have different meanings.

"alamat" is Filipino (or Tagalog, although they aren't the same thing) for "legend".
For example,
"Ang Alamat ng Sibuyas." ("The Legend of the Onion.")
"Ang Alamat ni Maria Makiling." ("The Legend of Mariang Makiling")
"Alamat" tells how something might have come to be. It's a legend, really.
