Dear Philip,

I am planning a retrospective of the work of Douglas next March in Paris. I am contacting you as I attended the one which you organised in London last January. I really enjoyed your work, and I hope you don't mind my asking if you would be so kind as to give me some advice. Would you allow me to contact you again with some questions I would really like to ask?

Thank you for taking the time to consider my request,

Regards from: ( your name, with designation, qualification, or similar).

Hope this helps you!

Hi! I am actually a French student at my school, and I definitely understand why you want this checked! I'm always worried about doing something wrong, too!

Dear Philip,

I plan to organize a retrospective show of Douglas' works next March in Paris. I contacted you as I went to the one you organized last January in London. I really enjoyed your work, so I am writing you because I would like to get some advice. So can I ask you some questions then?

Thanks a lot!!

I tried to make it sound more like how people normally talk, and I added a word. I put "show" in there because retrospective is actually an adjective and it needed a noun. I thought maybe you were talking about a show or something of the sort, so I just thought it would make it sound better.

Dear Philip,

I plan to organise/organize* a retrospective of the works of Douglas next March in Paris; I am contacting you as I went to the one you organised/organized* last January in London. I really enjoyed your work and so I am writing to you as I would like to ask for some advice. Would it be possible for me to ask you some questions?

* 'organise' is the British English spelling, 'organize' is the American English spelling - I had to look this up myself
