How would you say that you are going to the hair salon?
The question was: Tu a de cheveux trop longs (or something like that) Then we have to say: I go to...., Je vais a la/au! Can someone help me? I dont know how to say hair salon. I tried "institut de beaute" and also "salon de coffuire"

Seen the affluence of responses and the peomptness aswell, the only thing i couldd ad would be:

if you wish to write the evryday french, a bit slangy, but not so much, you may say:

question: tu as de cheveux trop longs! then you reply as:

J'irai chez la coiffeuse (i'm going to visit the -lady-hairdresser)!

or: j'irai au salon de la coiffure, but it's quite formal, so take up the above one!

"Tu as les cheveux trop longs"

"Je vais chez le coiffeur (hairdresser)" (we NEVER say AU coiffeur, it's absolutely wrong because you go to see someone, not a place, I can certified it, I'm french)

"Je vais au salon de coiffure (hair saloon)" here we say "au" and not "chez" because we don't talk about a personn but about a place

The difference between "à la" (dont forget the "comma" on the "a", we call it "un accent" in French) and "au" is that "au" is the male form and it means "à le" but we don't say "à le", we contract it and "à la" is the female form.

If "tes cheveux sont trop longs"

you'd have to "aller au salon de coiffure".

In your case French people will use the future tense :

"J'irai au salon de coiffure."

another case :

Where are you going?

Je vais au salon de coiffure.

that is : right now

Well ,

You can say : "Je vais au salon de coiffure" { present}OR "J'irai au salon de coiffure" .{future} (which means hair salon)

You also could say ,I'm going to the hairdresser :

Je vais chez le coiffeur {present}

J'irai chez le coiffeur {future}

** we say"Au salonde.........." because salon is masculin and -à la- is only used for feminen" Au is instead of "à le" because it doesn't exist in French language

** the secound suggestion is the common one we say always Je vais chez le coiffeur .

** the word Coiffeur means (the male hairdresser) the female is (coiffeuse) but it's not common to use it .

Hope it helps.

Maybe:

- Tes cheveux sont trop longs!

- Je vais au coiffeur!

(I'd say "I'm going to the hairdresser!", but hair salon is "salon de coiffure", if you need that exactly.)
