vietnamese and thai people?

well last night i was talking to my friend
and randomly we spoke about what we did at school in history, she went to another school so they learned about different things.
she done the Vietnam war.

and then she said Vietnamese people are Thai. and i was like errrrm
no they aren't! and she said yeah they are.

but i said Vietnam is a completely different country, it doesn't even border Thailand. Cambodia and Laos are in the way.
and i also said the Vietnamese people cant be Thai they are a different ethnic group called Kinh.
also one of my best friends who i have known for 6 years, is full viet and i said that to her. that they aren't thai and their languages aren't even related.

is there anyway to prove my point to her?

they physically looks difference too.

the got darker skin bigger eyes ticker lips, on the other hand Vietnamese mostly look Chinese alike but shorter than chinese.



i can't see how Vietnamese related to thais in anyway!

thais and Cambodian, Laos, Myanmar can be related in many ways.

culture, food, history, geography...etc

but this 4 countries are not related to the Vietnamese.

They may be related, but Vietnam has this HUUUUUGE influence from the French colonization of about 200 years! Thailand wasn't colonized by France...don't think they EVER had a European Colonization!



Show her the difference in how they write. Right there should be enough evidence to convince her of the differences (Vietnamese is written with Roman/Latin letters...I'm not sure it was written at all until the French occupation) And you could cite the differences in food style, too....big cultural indicator!



OOOh! And you might point out the differences in the typical features, too, though that starts bordering on politically incorrect.
