Hi! My friend and I are both interested in learning German together. I'm currently in French 2 and she's in Spanish 2. German isn't offered at our school, so we're thinking about trying to teach ourselves. My mom knows some German, as she studied it in high school and was in the German house in college, so she can probably help us. I did find some of my mom's old German books, which include "Teach Yourself Books: German", "Dictionary of 501 German Verbs" by Barron, "Cassell's New Compact German Dictionary", and "German: A Structural Approach (Third Edition)" by Lohnes and Strothmann. However, these books are all pretty old and so I wasn't sure how well they would work for us. I already know about the LanguagePod101 series, and my mom also has a few children's books in German. Are there any good books you would suggest for self-teaching German? Any other resources or methods that you could recommend us?
Since we've never self-taught ourselves a language before, how should we begin? Any good suggestions for activities or things we can do for "class time" to help drill the new words into our brain?
Danke! :)
