Learning Hindi or Arabic?

I've been considering learning either Hindi or Arabic for a long time now. I am currently majoring in both International Business and Spanish but would like to learn another language in addition, one that breaks the typical mold (Spanish, French, German, etc.). I find both of the cultures to be very interesting so this makes the decision process even harder. I want to pick one that will be beneficial for my career yet at the same time something I will be able to use on my own (travel, conversation...). In your opinion which would be the best to learn and what type of job positions can I expect for each? Thanks in advance.

id say Hndi...its easier. Arabic involves a writing system that looks like it will take eons to learn, but Hndi gotta similar writing system as English. characters are different, but the usage of characters is similar to english. not like Arabic which has a similar usage as i think Japanese...but go w Hndi...its easier, n its more spoken then Arabic...think about it, Indiia is 2nd largest populated country in the world! if u need any help learning hndi, lemme kno ;-)....hndi jaante hoon....

Why not try leaning a little of both to start of with? Learn something about Arab and Indian cultures and the Islamic and Hindu religions too. Then decide which one you like best and concentrate on it from then on. Learning a new language is a long, hard road and you are more likely to succeed if you work at one that you really like.

Another thing: With Arabic you have to learn several languages: Classical Arabic, Modern Standard Arabic and one or more spoken dialects. It's like having to learn Latin, Spanish and Italian all at once. Hindi is much easier and it is not difficult to the add Urdu. Both Arabic and Urdu are important for national security work.

I think learning Arabic is a great idea. The business world today is very multi-cultural, and it is a very common language throughout the Middle East. You would be able to speak with people from Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Israel, Egypt, and Morocco, just to name a few. Hindi is nowhere near as widespread. Given the choice between the two, I think you'd use Arabic a lot more, not to mention make yourself more desirable as an employee.

Well I would say go for Arabic. Why ?

1- it's the 5th universally wide spread language.

2- By learning Arabic you would be able to deal with so many nations "different people from different countries"

3- By learning Hindi ,you would be able to deal with Indians .who speak Hindi only "notice that there are around 40 language in India".

4- The middle east now is always in top stories ,so you could get a translation major.

5- By dealing with people from different countries ,you would know about different cultures "Arab countries are different from each others"but by learning only Hindi you would get to know Indian culture "which is also great of course" but there is no big variety.

6- A part of my major is teaching Arabic so I could help you but if you are gonna learn Hindi !! who's gonna help?? "just kidding" :)

For jobs s I told you translation ,tourist guide ,...and according to your main major you could get a job in your major but in different countries "as you already know English"

Good luck.

I'd say Arabic. It will probably help you more in a career and in traveling. I am learning Arabic also, but it is sort of complicated. But I still think you should try it. You'd be surprised at you you could learn besides the language itself.

I think Arabic would be the best to learn. The Middle-Eastern languages are getting very popular.

Go with Arabic...

There is a lot of new development in that part of the world. Look at Dubai. Also, if you are interested in any intelligence work like CIA, go with Arabic.
