The only only only thing i had trouble with was the letter "Я". I understand the rest of the alphabet but i didnt the backwards "R". I dont understand why they make different sounds at the beginning, not at the beginning, stressed, and unstressed.(i dont even know what they mean by stress or unstressed.) I hope I didnt insult anyones culture I just really would like to understand the one letter. Litterally thats all I have left and for some reason I cant comprehend the rules for that. I know it makes 3 different sounds but I do not know why. I know that it can either be ya, yi, or Ah. but i dont know when you use it and what times. its very frustrating to me but I want to learn russian very badly, its sucha beautiful language!

Gert is absolutely right!

Why only "Я" is so hard to you?

What about "ы", for example?

"Я" - is always "ya"

Яблоко

Ясно

Ясень

in the beginning

Поляна

Аляска

Пляска

in the middle

Коля

Толя

Валя

Галя

in the end

Give us these words with "Я" and will try to help you.

Just don't give up))

Good Luck!

First answerer is right, 'я' has one sound and one sound only, which is "yah." True, sometimes people may pronounce it differently, especially at the end of a word (where it may sound more like "yuh"), but if you're trying to be technically correct, "yah" is always the best choice. "Yi" and "ah" are just not correct. The only Russian letter I can think of that differs based on its place in a word is "о."

Relax. You make it sound too complicated. "Я" is pronounced "ya", nothing else. What 3 different sounds? Not true.
