RE:

Romantic Russian poem to give my boyfriend?

We have been having a very hard time lately- he is distancing himself from me and I am trying to change for him (we have a long history). I can read Cyrillic and would like a poem that I could make him proud (he's a Russian immigrant) by reading, a romantic one- I looked at Pushkin but i...

I don't think a poem is going to do any good, as i get the impression that he is trying to break up with you. why the hell would you want to change for someone who is distancing himself from you???? if he can't except you for who you are he is not worth it, find yourself someone who will.

The problem is there were a lot of Russian women-poets, but they wrote mostly about cheating, cold lovers, death wish and their bleeding hearts - that is not what you need, I suppose. About another answer: there is a poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko (Евгений Евтушенко - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yevtushenko ) but I am not sure writing about love is the strongest side of his talent :-)

One of the most beautiful (and short!) love poems was written by a man - Innokenty Annensky (Иннокентий Анненский). Despite of your request to ignore male poetry I'd like to propose you this text:

in Russian - http://www.stihi-rus.ru/love/2.htm

in English - http://www.poetryloverspage.com/yevgeny/annensky/among_worlds.html

on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmjtudNAQVU

Marina Tsvetaeva - one of the greatest Russian poets.

Марина Цветаева "Мне нравится, что вы больны не мной" - http://www.stihi.ru/2009/03/29/1411 - both in Russian and in English.

It isn't the happiest poem, but every Russian knows it due to the song made of it. The link to YouTube mentioned on the web-site doesn't work, so I found for you another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E74XI8035MA&feature=video_response . If you choose this poem you can train your pronunciation and even learn how to sing it.

If you don't like any of proposed poems you can read selected poems of Marina Tsvetaeva and Anna Akhmatova (Анна Ахматова) in English and to choose one for yourself, here is a bilingual site with the parallel texts:

http://home.comcast.net/~kneller/tsvetaeva.html and

http://home.comcast.net/~kneller/Akhmatova.html

ADDITIONAL:

Rimma Kazakova (Римма Казакова)

http://www.litera.ru/stixiya/authors/kazakova/byt-zhenschinoj-chto.html - "What does it mean to be a woman?" - it tells that a man is nothing without a woman, and when she come into his life - it's like a medicine prescribed by a doctor. Well, a poem with a hint.

http://www.litera.ru/stixiya/authors/kazakova/lyubi-menya-zastenchivo.html - "love me like you're shy and arrogant, let me be your servant and your queen"
