As in the litter box, NOT a litter of kittens.

I have seen "arena", "piedras sanitarias" and "litera", but I am not sure if one is more commonly used. I am able to understand Spanish somewhat, but certain words like this I am uncertain of.

Native speaker's answers would be appreciated, but not required.

Here in Argentina, we call them "piedritas sanitarias para gatos" or "piedras sanitarias para gatos". Don't call it "arena" because it's the one which is in the beach and dont call them "litera" neither, search this word in Google Images and you will see what a litera is.

I hope I've helped you and sorry for my English!

When I was once in Guatemala staying at a river lodge twelve years in the past a cat could come and percentage the chook from my dinner each night time. When I ask his identify they mentioned it was once "Mincho". I concept it possibly a diminutive of Benjamino. When I got here again I followed a six week historic kitten and named him Mincho (he was once meant to be Ben while he grew up and of path he's nonetheless Mincho). My dentist's assistant is from South American and he advised me Mincho is the normal identify for kitty cat in SA. So gatito and gatita are definitely correct names for kitty cat and it appears mincho is normal too.
