Question:
What is the best language for a future lawyer to learn?
2009-08-18 12:06:53 UTC
I'm currently in law school and was considering purchasing a Rosetta Stone kit to learn a new language. I'm interested mostly in international human rights law or gov't positions (such as FBI or State Dept). I'd like some advice on what language would be the best to learn (making me a more desirable applicant). Also, information on the best language for general job applicants (in case I don't end up in the legal field). Right now, I was leaning toward Mandarin Chinese. Thanks.

I should say English, but today you can't know that for sure.

Spanish as it is one of the most common languages in the united states and considering which state you end up working in it will increase the no of jobs you will be able to take as many imagrants are unable to speak good english and it will allow you to communicate with them better.

Mandarin is also good but i lean towards spanish as it is also slightly easier to learn.

A lot of medical and law stuff are based on latin or greek ideas.

Both are languages which are kind of dead but if you want to really gain a lot from on of those. Learn latin because it is the mother of spanish, italian , french, portuguese, and romanian.

I speak spanish and I can understand any of the romance languages which come from latin.

So therefore latin is your best option.

Also I have thought about this that you are thinking and i was advised to learn latin!
