Question:
Why can't people on this site..............?

I'm just wondering why people on this site can't/don't seem to use proper/correct grammar and spelling when they are asking or answering questions? It seems that people ask their questions desperate for answers but can't even use correct sentence formation, grammar and spelling. I'm not asking for perfect English prose but come on!

Surely you would think that for this particular site to function properly people would need to be able to write (type) in their own language in a way that is at least legible....

Everybody makes mistakes here and there in their tpying (just like that) but have you seen some of the questions that don't even make sense?!

Do people write like this because they just aren't very skilled at using correct (or at least passable) spelling and grammar? Or because they couldn't be bothered?

Just bizarre really.

I agree. This site has a built- in spell checker. It flags bad spelling as you go. It even suggests correct spellings when you double click to highlight a word then Control-click. You can also run the checker manually. They almost have to go out of their way to spell badly.

I do not accept as an excuse for text message spelling the need for speed. Most answers will take more time than the questions. If they cannot be bothered, why should anyone else. I too skip over many questions that are so badly written they are hard to understand. My job is to figure out the answer, not the question.

I, personally, would put this phenomena down to the fact that users (some) relate this form of communication, to texting.

Using shortcuts to save time. Whereas, it is used to save money in the case of texting!

In other respects, it is plausible users are of any age, therefore allowing for the education 'gap' between users.

This would mean they could be in Primary, Secondary, Tertiary education, or well established in life.

I believe this may be the largest contributing factor, although coming back to the case of 'anyone being able to participate', that may also include early school leavers.

Please do not take it personally, this is a forum where everyone is welcome - right?

I am so with you! Even though my grammer and spelling aren't the best I still try and type out legible sentences that people can actually read them!! Countless times I've read (well tried to read) questions but don't have a hope of actually understanding what they're saying!! I've often wondered if people from other countries speaking other than english use like a language converter program which makes grammer so bad?

Either way I'm with you!

One reason is that a lot of people who use Yahoo answers don't use english as their first language. The anglophone yahoo is much bigger than in the other languages. English not being my 1st (or even 2nd) language, I also use the US yahoo much more than the french or german site.

I am totally on your side. I skip so many questions because of the miss spelling and grammar. Those questions would get so many more answers if they just used correct spelling. I think a lot of the problem is text messaging on Mobile phones.

Unfortunately, in a democracy you must socialize with the lower 3 classes [such as me, myself and I].

I guess because some people are just to lazy to type and some also think of these(asking questions and answering) quite stupid. Or maybe...yeah....they're not very sure of the spellings so they shorten everything...

And about asking stupid questions, I guess its because they can't do anything with their life.....hope i helped.
