There are actually two expressions for prostitute involving 'brass':

'Brass door' (whore) and 'brass flute' (prostitute)

both (cockney) rhyming slang, however, I cant find the etymology for either expression

I tend to think the brass/money connection is not correct because brass (prostitute) is a 'london' expression - however brass (money) is a 'northern' expression

Brass is also slang for money so i'm guessing thats the origin

I don't know but I love the expression. Also, where does the term 'tom' (meaning the same thing) come from?
