italian is said to be the 4th most studied language in the u.s. after spanish, french, and german. in europe it's the also 4th after english, french, and german (spanish is after italian in europe, because 45 - 50 million speak spanish just in europe, while italian is spoken by 65 - 70 million in just europe.) what part of italy are you from? i'm born and raised in sicily, but i live in california, and i know 3 nearby schools here that teach italian. one junior college teaches up to level 2. another teaches SIX! levels plus conversation and film. ucla (i plan to attend and major in italian there) offers countless classes. 2 basics, 2 intermediates, 2 advanced, plus classes on italian culture, history, film, industry, etc. i also heard the number of americans taking italian has increased faster than for any other language except spanish in recent years.
